For outdoor smart locks, the core protection index focuses on the IP (Ingress Protection) rating, a key standard for measuring a device's dust and water resistance. The common outdoor applicable rating is IP65 or higher, where "6" indicates complete protection against dust intrusion, and "5" means resistance to low-pressure water jets (such as heavy rain and sprinklers). The IP67 rating can work normally after short-term immersion (within 1 meter for 30 minutes), making it suitable for rainy, humid, or coastal areas. In addition to the IP rating, the lock body material directly affects the protection life: 304 stainless steel has strong corrosion resistance and UV resistance, which can effectively cope with outdoor temperature differences, acid rain, and other erosion; aviation-grade aluminum alloy, after anodizing, combines light weight and wear resistance, becoming the mainstream choice for mid-to-high-end products; while ordinary zinc alloy, although low in cost, is prone to oxidation and rust when exposed to the outdoors for a long time and needs to be matched with multi-layer spray protection. Moreover, the sealing design of the lock is equally important. High-quality products use silicone sealing strips or waterproof plugs at the joints of the panel, keyholes, charging interfaces, etc., to prevent rainwater from seeping into the internal circuit board——the circuit board itself needs to undergo three-proof coating (moisture-proof, salt spray-proof, mold-proof) treatment to avoid short circuits caused by condensation. When choosing, users should consider the climatic characteristics of the use environment: IP65 + stainless steel can be selected for arid and rainless areas, while IP67 + 304 stainless steel or anodized aluminum alloy is recommended for coastal areas with high humidity and salt. At the same time, it is necessary to confirm whether the product has passed the high and low temperature test (normal operation from -40℃ to 60℃) to avoid failure of electronic components due to extreme temperatures.
